The character creation window provides choice between race, gender and appearance. you need it to add fuel to the mech (because frakkin added a fuel system to the mech along with parts for it) if you dont have the tablet you cannot refuel your mech and then it becomes useless.At the select character screen, click create character to create a new character or an existing character to advance directly to the game. its not cheating because its an essential item by the way. If you cant find it at any of the build tables you need to spawn it in for yourself. You have to make sure you got the 'Mech Tablet' item. Once you have got those, if you have problems with your mech (if you cant move when taking the training mech quest, beam back to your ship and redo it and you should be able to move again)
